About the Morepork
Ruru, Morepork, is a small dark brown native owl with beige and Brown mottled front and typically large owl eyes. It is nocturnal, eating a variety of insects and small animals such as rats, mice and smarter Birds. Ruru is mainly found in forested areas from sea level to high country. Often heard, Ruru has a variety of calls but derives it's common name from the iconic call that sounds like 'more pork'. Seldom Seen Ruru is hard to spot because it is nocturnal, hidden in forested areas and possesses eerily silent flight.
