Natural New Zealand Possum Fur Shoe Liner
So warm and comfortable it feels like you're walking on clouds! Our possum shoe liners are ideal for any closed shoe or boot. They have a soft fur upper with a course sole so that they grip to your shoe without sliding. Hard wearing and machine washable, just air dry them flat. So easy to wear you'll want a pair for each of your favourite shoes.
And…This is the best product available for those smelly feet! We have had LASRA (the New Zealand Leather and Shoe Research Association inc) do laboratory testing on them for wearability, Odour absorption and comfort. They compared them to other top insoles on the market and Possum Pam came up tops.
Color: Natural
The New Zealand brushtail possum (Trichosurus vulpecula) was introduced from Australia to New Zealand in 1837 to establish a fur industry, largely with government sanction. However, the fur trade died out in the 1900s and the possum population exploded. It is now estimated that there are up to 60 million brushtail possums in New Zealand consuming 21 thousand tons of vegetation nightly.
Australian plants often have defences against possums, such as spines, prickles or poisonous leaves, but New Zealand plants do not. The possums thrive on indigenous trees like the pohutukawa, rata, totara, kowhai and kohekohe. They compete with other animals for food, thus contributing to the decline of rare plants, birds and animals. They defoliate the trees, so that forest canopies are weakened and susceptible to climatic extremes and attack by pathogens and insects.
The New Zealand government began possum control operations in the late 1940s. The government currently invests $NZ58 million per year to control possums.
Cleaning your Possum product
For smaller items, gentle machine wash or hand wash in warm water using a mild detergent. Spin to remove excess water. Dry possum fur products flat and in shape away from direct sunlight and artificial heat. DO NOT tumble dry. Take care not to place possum fur on a radiator, steam pipe or in front of a fan heater as this may damage the fibres.
Brushing
After cleaning , possum fur may appear scruffy. A light brush with either a comb or hairbrush will help restore the fibres original appearance.
Luxurious comfort
Possum fur is a hollow fibre fur it has millions of air pockets to capture warmth and is incredibly light weight. Possum fur has superior insulation properties which keeps body heat in and cold air out. It is one of the least flammable textiles in common use. Possum fur is naturally non-allergenic and biodegradable. It requires no factory or chemicals to produce it and is a self-replenishing natural product. Possum fur is a highly durable natural fibre and, if properly cared for, will last a lifetime.
