Silver Fern
The silver fern (kaponga or ponga in the Māori language) is recognised overseas as the national symbol of New Zealand.  It is also used as an emblem on the clothing and marketing of many New Zealand sports teams.  There are about 190 species of native ferns found in New Zealand, the most famous of which is the silver fern.
